June 3, 2016 by Phil Leave a Comment

Looking for a summer job? The Supreme Court has a vacancy, but it’s not really easy to get an interview.

Do you object to that joke? Trust us: our humor cannot be overruled. As you’ve guessed, it’s time to look at the Supreme Court once again.

Stripping Civil Liberties

April 16, 2012 by Phil Leave a Comment

LogoNeed to be encouraged to lose weight and exercise but you’re lacking the motivation? The US Supreme Court has the answer for you: strip searches for those arrested of minor offenses. Rack up a few unpaid parking tickets and be prepared to bare all when the boys in blue finally catch up with you!

Correction: In the audio, Phil says that the case centered around a man who had been pulled over for not having a “bell on his bike.” Where does he get this stuff? Actually, it was a man who had a warrant issued against him for having an unpaid fine. He was pulled over by a New Jersey State Trooper and arrested. Worse than Phil thought, the guy had paid the fine, possessed a letter stating this, had his protestations ignored by the trooper, was arrested anyway—technically for nothing, since the fine had been paid—and was subjected to two strip searches at two separate county prisons. Read more at NPR.org.

In response to these revelations, Phil adds: “How is this constitutional? Doesn’t anyone notice that this can’t be good for us as citizens long-term? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!”
