1.20 Civil Rights are Human Rights

July 22, 2016 by Phil Leave a Comment

This week, we get some help clarifying our thoughts on race and civil rights from Hubert Humphrey, specifically from his speech to the 1948 Democratic National Convention.

Is there a problem with race in the US? Maybe you don’t see a problem, but does that mean it doesn’t exist? What do we have to lose by listening to each other?

If you have any questions or comments, leave them on the episode page, send us a message on Twitter, or send us an e-mail.

1.19 Race to Confusion

July 15, 2016 by Phil Leave a Comment

How do two white guys in the suburbs talk about race? Ignorantly and with a great amount of passion. We hope you can follow along with our jumbled thoughts. We’ll do better next time; we promise.

If you have any questions or comments, leave them on the episode page, send us a message on Twitter, or send us an e-mail.

1.18 Dream Not Realized…Yet!

July 8, 2016 by Phil Leave a Comment

Once again, the US has had a terrible week, full of senseless violence, anger, hatred, and a increasing amount of division.

Kevon and Phil will have a lot to say about this next week, but for now, let’s look back at a more optimistic moment, when, in August of 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.

We hope you find this speech to be inspiring and uplifting, and we hope that the next few days find us beginning the slow process of repairing our nation.

If you have any questions or comments, leave them on the episode page, send us a message on Twitter, or send us an e-mail.

Affirmatively Negative

March 23, 2012 by Phil Leave a Comment

LogoThis is the “lost episode” of The Monarchist. Recorded in the past few weeks, Phil got a little crazy, so this episode had to be edited for excessive anger, intensity, and insanity. As it stands now, this is a fairly even discussion of affirmative action, questioning the purpose behind the policy. We hope you find it interesting. Maybe motivating.
